Good afternoon all,
This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day with the first Sunday in September. Father’s Day can bring mixed reactions within our lives. I lost my father just one week shy of my 15th birthday back in 1981, so I spent much of my later years growing up without an earthly father. The time I had with my father was pleasant and impacting upon me albeit a short time. For other people though their experience of a father could bring back memories of fear and hurt. That is so sad to hear of those who’ve had that sort of experience with their father. God is our Heavenly Father, unlike any father we’ve ever experienced on earth, good or bad. God is a Father we can run to find all we need in life to be loved and complete in Him and overcome the brokenness of our lives.
Romans 8:14–16 (ESV) — 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
As the Holy Spirit gives us the ability to call “Abba Father” to our heavenly father, we then are empowered to be the fathers we are called to be as well. Let’s thank the Lord for the role of a father and let’s do all we can to encourage them and see their role achieve much for the glory of God.
Here’s where we land at Exchange Church this weekend:
- ECY – Friday 7:00pm at the church.
- EC Sunday gathering 10:00am Sunday.
- EC Corporate Prayer 5:00pm Sunday in the lounge.
This week for our Sunday sermon we’ll be focusing on the role that God has given for fathers. Genesis 2:18-24, 1 Peter 3:7, and Ephesians 6:1-4; God is For Fathers.
Please read through those scriptures to help prepare us for Sunday.
In Christ,
